in squaring the process of a cylindrical container (a can) becoming square is witnessed from four perspectives simultan- eously .four cameras are set up in 360° around the can, each 90° apart on a circle. each camera films a selection of the can. because of the zoom and the round nature of the can, each of the four pictures is overlapping slightly with the next one. the can is filled with boiling water and heated up for approx. a minute. the water is poured out and the lid is closed immediately. over a timespan of approx. twenty minutes the difference in temperature (cold outside, hot inside) causes the can to contract - it changes it‘s shape and produces sound. this process is repeated four times with four different cans. a selection of five minutes from each process was chosen for the video.
