quadruplet two tin cans are attached two a cord with rubber band. the cord is strained around two winches in a horizontal line. one of the winches is driven by a gear motor. light sensors control the direction of the motors rotation. the cans are transported very slowly over the surface of glass plates. the friction of the cans on the glass produces a spectrum of frequencies - from single pitches to multiphonics. these pitches are interrupted by silences of varying durations.
